Update on Otto! (formally Flip)

I'm back with a quick update on Otto (formally known as Flip). And he has gotten so big! I've found out his favorite toy of all time is HAIR TIES, and that he absolutely loves playing with them in the tub and/or sink. He loves to wander downstairs and torment our dog(A Lhasa Apso), and my brothers dog(An Alaskan Malamute, yes, that big dog breed!). He roams around, strutting around with confidence, it's quite amusing. =]

But at the time of his adoption, we had(and still have) a much older cat, Smokey (11 years). At first Smokey wanted NOTHING to do with him, as he was a little rambunctious kitty cat who just wanted to maul him. But in late August Smokey's behavior towards Otto began to change. At first I would just hold him, letting him sniff, of course after Smokey would hiss and retreat. But eventually I let him go, and they both began to play! So more and more I let Otto interact with Smokey, and I'd go find them both laying on the bed. Now I confidently and comfortably enclose both Otto and Smokey in three fairly big adjoining rooms on one side of our house. Smokey, who has been lonely since her owner went off to college now has a playmate to keep him company(and to keep him in shape!); and Otto, who also loves attention and hates being left alone has someone to hang out with. (And I have someone that can help drain that energy!)

Otto is just a little bundle of joy. Such a calm, well-mannered kitten. I am so glad I picked him up on that day, and I just had to share this with y'all! =]

Hazel

I've been wanting a dog for over a year, and I finally found the perfect one in August.

Hazel is a terrier mix and as sweet as can be. She loves her Momma so much and loves to snuggle and play. She is so spoiled; she even has her own pillow-topped throne. She enjoys spending time with all of the other animals here and is protective of her home.

We love her so much and we thank AAR Tomball for letting us take her home!!!!!

Sonny

I adopted Sonny this past Friday. I renamed him Charlie. He is so funny! He loves to run around my house at a tear. He also loves to have his tummy rubbed. He flops over so I can rub it. Then he falls asleep in that position.

Thank you so much for my Charlie. Love him to pieces!

Sam's checking in!

Hello friends!
I came to my forever home in February just 6 months ago. Seems like forever 'cause my forever family is just wonderful. My BFF's here (all 5 of them) are the best. There is a picture attached of me with my BFF Pepper. He and I are so busy being busy everyday we have to take a break to eat! I am one lean and handsome fellow. My mom says I am doing fine and she has never seen anyone sweeter, she is always kissing me and petting me. We talked and she said she wants to put a plaque in the lobby of the new building in my name. How cool would that be!

I run and play, I have special places to rest and nap. I have good family, food and love.
Life is good and I am happy.

Wishing you happiness too,

Sammy Sam Patterson

yogi update

I posted about Yogi and his happy place several weeks ago, but the picture I uploaded was too big, so, here is one that, hopefully, will post. Yogi is a beauty. He has gained weight, is really well behaved for a young hound, and is very happy here. He is so sweet and loving too.

"Timmy" now Chance

We adopted Chance one week ago today! We already have a female German Shepard and we thought she really needed a friend. He immediately stole everyone's heart especially our female Sadey!! She loves going for car rides but is hesitant now because she doesn't want to leave Chance! He is the perfect addition to our home, we couldn't be any happier!

Wesley

A couple weeks ago, we adopted a handsome little charmer named Wheeler. Since, his gimpy ear has perked right up and we've renamed him to Wesley!

He came with a full package deal: microchipped, neutered, and ignorant.
He went from not knowing how to use stairs to knowing his name and "no" within his first 24 hours. He reacts really positively to praise (which works so well in our favor >:)) and therefore, has stopped going potty in the house and knows exactly what to do if he needs to go out. At only three months, he loves to play fetch! He's a big ol' lover boy with some hardcore playing! I've never met a more well-behaved puppy (but then again, I may be biased..) We can't wait to let this natural born swimmer use his webbed paws!! He is saturated with love and affection!

Thanks for the help in finding a wonderful friend,
The Two of Us

Murphy

I adopted Murphy (formerly Maxwell) in November of last year. He has been fun, entertaining and a handful. He knows most commands such as sit, shake, stay, and drop it. He is so full of energy. I couldn't have picked a better dog to make part of my family.

Too many pics for one submission!

Camber and Murphy

We adopted Camber (AKA Monte) in December. I cannot tell you how happy he made our family from the first day. It wasn't until June, when I was reading the monthly newsletter, that I realized that his brother, Murphy was still at the shelter. I knew we had to go get him!! After about the first 15 minutes of a very chaotic reunion, they were best buds. They are both sweet, smart and fun. I did not think there would be another dog that loved to pool as much as Camber, but Murphy does. These two are full of energy and never fail to entertain us. The only time they are separated is at night. Camber sleeps with one of my sons and Murphy with the other. They are too big to both be in one bed :)

Yogi

We adopted Yogi on Friday the 13th of July! He weighed 66 pounds, down more than 15 pounds from the beginning of the year when he was found at Yogi Bear Camp ground. We put him on puppy food and he is filling out beautifully. The vet says he is about 18 months old. We have also discovered that he is a Plott hound, which is one of the coon hound breeds. Yogi now has 2 1/2 acres to run and play and fetch his ball, and squirrels to tree. He is smart and sweet and lovable.

Olivia

We adopted Olivia in June. From the very beginning she was very sweet and loving and absolutely adorable. As she is growing up, she just gets cuter and cuter every day. She has so much energy and loves chasing her tail, playing in puddles, throwing her toys around, and just generally running around as fast as she can. In the 4 short weeks we have had her, she has already learned to sit, shake, give high-fives, and we are working on "lay down." She is very intelligent and absolutely loves every person (and dog) she meets. She instantly took to my husband and our friends and is housebroken already! She is everything we could have hoped for and more

When I adopted her, I was very impressed by the volunteers at AAR. I had never adopted a dog from a shelter before and was a little apprehensive because I had heard some horror stories. My fears were completely unfounded because the volunteers instantly put me at ease and you could just tell that everyone there loves every single animal there and wants nothing but the best for them. Adopting Olivia has been one of the best things for us and we are so thankful to the people who made that happen.

AAR We adopted Ollie from AAR today and wanted to give an update. He is doing GREAT in his new home. My husband and the kids adore him and so do our other two dogs. The gray dog in the picture with Ollie is Popcorn. They are best buds now and joined at the hip. Poppy had to come to PetSmart with us to get Ollie his collar and tag;he would not let us leave without him. I want to thank the staff for helping us find the perfect fit for our family today. You all were great and very patient with my kids and me, along with all the other crazy stuff going on. We really appreciate it. I have adopted many dogs from numerous places, but this was the best experience, hands down. Thanks again!

Ares(formerly Tangerine) and Luna( formerly Kameron)

I adopted these two kittens to propose to my girlfriend of almost 5 years. The video is here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N3aQ087_Eb8&feature=youtu.be Me and my fiance absolutely love Ares and Luna, and can't wait to start/continue our family.

Foster (formerly known as Jada)

I saw a picture of Foster on petfinder.com and I instantly knew she was the right fit for me. After discussing the idea of adopting a dog with my boyfriend, we decided to cut our spring break short and and go meet the darling dog in the photo. I traveled 5 hours that day to meet this little black ball of joy we now call Foster! What a wonderful decision we made and she has brought so much joy to both of our lives and is unbelievable spoiled! She is living the college life here in College Station, TX and spends most of her days hanging out and going to the puppy park, playing with her toys and laying out on the balcony (she has to get her summer tan ;) ). She also loves to go see her friends at puppy school, and is an avid traveler! Not only is she a beautiful but she has brains too and has learned to sit, stand, lay down, shake, heel, and ring bells when she needs to potty! Her favorite foods are kibble, apples and peanut butter and she howls with joy when she sees the pantry
opening and the peanut butter jar coming out.

I was so impressed with the service and the incredible volunteers at AAR and the care they took of Foster checking in on her after her adoption and making sure that she was going to a loving forever home. I look on the website often and always recommend AAR to friends looking to adopt a pet.

Much Love,

Paige, Cameron & Foster

Layla Michelle Fulton

We are so glad to have Layla a part of our family. Layla has been a joy to have. We love her so much already. She loves playing tag with the kids and running around in the backyard with the kids. When she wakes up in the morning she's so happy. Layla is going to be a momma's girl; we are going to have so much fun together.

Muchacho (formerly "graham")

I have updated this before but feel there should be more photos of the grown up version. Muchacho is now 1.5 years old and is just a great addition to our family and to everyone who meets him. He is simply put, the best.

Otto (Formally known as Flip)

I got Otto (previously known as Flip) on the sixteenth of May. Let me tell you this, he is the best little thing in the world! (He is also very, very spoiled!) He's been residing in my room, and on the first day he mainly explored. He's adapted very well, by the end of his first day he was purring and letting me love on him, and when he purrs, he sounds like a motorboat! I've got plenty of pictures and videos of him playing with his toys and doing interesting things, he has a lot of fun running all around the room and climbing up on things. My room has plenty of things he can climb on, and even more places to hide! When I come into my room he greets me with plenty of meows, and usually follows me around. He's the best investment I've ever made, and I'm very grateful I took him home! He sleeps when I'm gone and runs around like a crazy little thing when I'm in the room. He loves to lie all over my computer when I'm trying to get things done, and I never have the heart to take him
off. And what's even more exciting, is that after he settles down at night he sleeps with me in my bed. He has definitely made himself at home! Like I previously said, I love my little Otto, and thank you for letting me adopt such an angel!

Alida

We recently lost our 17 year old cat and wanted a third pet. We had two mature dogs and decided to adopt a young female dog. Alida is medium size female dog with a wonderful personality. Alida was in a foster home with several other dogs. We believe the foster care promoted her socialization of both dogs and people. Alida was easily accepted by our other dogs. We are very fond of Alida and would like to thank Abandon Animal Rescue for providing fantastic foster care. Alida is a happy dog and a wonderful addition to our family.

Sincerely,

Linda & JR

Denver is now Scooter

On Dec 16th 2010
We adopted Denver to help keep our older dog more active. He did his job and much much more. We feel Denver kept our older beloved with us almost another year before we lost him. He has helped fill our void and has enriched our lives 12 fold. We re named him Scooter and he is by far the love of our lives.
No one really knows what breed he is except there is some Dachshund in there somewhere. We also believe Cairen Terrier too. The vet says he is most unusual.
He has an extended vocabulary. We have to spell words. So far he hasn't broken the code.
Wish I had a picture to send along but you can draw smiles on both our faces all the time because of our wonderful Scooter............

Sissy

We adopted Sissy in Oct. 2010. She is a blessing to us and we love her so much. She is still a little skittish around adults, but she loves children. We have 2 grandbabies who she loves to see. Thanks again AAR for all you do for these wonderful animals.

Camber Monte Rohan

Camber (formerly known as Monte) joined our family in December and has been a joy to wake up every single day. He has the best personality is constantly making us smile. He is so smart; he has quickly learned almost every command we have taught him. He can sit, stay, lay, fetch, shake and speak and stop. As you can see in the pic below...he loves the pool! He has been a wonderful addition to our family!

Update on Bolt 1 year Later!

I adopted Bolt a year ago. Since then he's moved to college with me in Austin. He loves randomly running around the house, destroying toys in a matter of minutes, sleeping on the bed with his head on the pillow (very important to him!), and running through the trails and parks of Austin. We get compliments on how beautiful he is all the time! He is still the big, goofy, snuggly boy I adopted a year ago! :)

Chloe(used to be Pinky)

Well me and my grandma found Chloe with another dog Camden and brought them to AAR. It took my grandma more then a hour and a half to get them. Camden got adopted so we were happy for him. Then when we volunteered one day Chloe was there and she was afraid of everyone except us so we started thinking about getting her. So we went and got her and she is so sweet. It took her a while to like the other dogs but now they are her friends. Her favorite dog to play with is the other dog we got from AAR which is Choco. One of the pictures is with her and him together. They are so cute together. She is so sweet and she is almost done house training. She has not had that many accidents. I'm so glad we got her!

We wanted to send you some update pics of Brody since he recently had his one-year birthday! What a change! He is now 65 lbs + and still a little room to grow. Balls, food, sticks, food, his little sister playmate Karleigh (adopted locally in October)...did I mention food? He has turned out to be a great dog for us...and too smart for his own good! Kate has kept up his training - sit, stay, lay, circle, come, up, paw, other paw, crawl, etc. We definitely see lab in him now, but occasionally, what we suspect now to be some Catahoula craziness overrides the common sense and he needs some crate time-out to calm back down. His pal, Karleigh, is a 28 lb. Aussie/border collie mix from the local shelter..six months of age! They keep each other going! Brody is much more willing to do some quiet time in front of the TV than she is! Brody and Karleigh got a 60' X 40' fenced yard for Christmas and are loving every square inch of it!

He loves to track all of the animal smells on our trails...especially after a good rain! He is big with a BIG warning bark, but mostly we just here some "grumble talk" when he wants to play or go out, etc. All-in-all..he is a giant baby and can't wait to give you morning kisses and a hug after his wake-up stretches!
